My
writing workshop has revealed, created, inspired, provoked, and moved me in
ways unimaginable. I am featuring Ladyi Iris’ work today. She is a writer and blogger. Her title drew me in, one of the techniques we are learning
about.

“Okay
I did not know how to do it, what was the right thing to do. Before I opened my
account my friend told me, "say thank you to every follower, and to make
sure you follow back." Soon my board was filled with stuff that I did not
care about. I would have to go through several tweets before I saw one from
some writer I can relate to. I was drowning in junk tweets. I had to think
about the etiquette game to twitter again. Was it wrong to not follow just
because someone followed me? Was it okay just to see who I wanted to see? Or
better yet, why was I feeling a certain way about someone who unfollowed me, or
who never followed me at all? How about the ones who made a second account then
followed you? What about the ones you support by dishing out their work, they
say thank you and never followed as if what you put out there was not
important, not even their work. So today I threw out the rules that I received
before opening my account. I made my own rules no matter what others think.
Right or wrong, I began to click away those brands and random ones I followed
just because they followed me. I said to myself, what do I want to see? I
narrowed it down a lot and I have a lot to go. However, the process did
something for me. It made me okay with those who don't follow or who
unfollowed. It made me okay with the decision to stop following aimlessly with
no purpose. Now I follow because I have a connection and I like what the person
brings to my twitter world. If they do not bring it there then maybe they will
do better on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest or their blog. Maybe I will follow
them there…”
